RUNNING GREEN

There’s no running from the need to be sustainable to protect our planet, and so Burj2Burj is committed to taking the steps to become fully carbon neutral by 2028.

Events can be challenging to host without causing environmental impact, however we’re taking every step possible to ensure this race doesn’t negatively impact the race we’re all on towards sustainability.
WHAT ARE WE DOING NOW?

- We’re located on the Metro route to minimise car travel to and from the event;

- A collaboration with No More Bottles gives us  a plastic-free solution to the waste of water bottles;

- BIBs are printed on site, reducing unnecessary printing for athletes who may not be able to attend, which eliminates paper waste and avoids unnecessary envelopes;

- My Laps, a global market leader that operates carbon free, handles the timing of our iconic race;

- A collaboration with Plastic Bank guarantees that our medals are sustainable. For every medal supplied, we prevent the equivalent of two plastic bottles from entering our oceans;

- Food and materials will be recycled and there is an audit of the impact of our event preparation and production that will help shape future years events.

Through these initiatives, we contribute to the global effort of reducing plastic waste, creating a positive impact on both the environment and the communities involved. This partnership not only celebrates the achievements of Burj2Burj participants but also supports a more sustainable future.

HOW WILL WE IMPROVE AND PROVE WHAT WE DO?
What we can’t save and deliver without waste we will be offsetting – the challenge of which will grow as we attract more international runners and interest in the following years. From 2024 we will offer offsetting for all flights, local travel and event production, attracting a sustainability sponsor, to fund truly transparent and deep sustainability planning, accounting and communication.

We won’t greenwash the event – we will work with highly accredited environmental audit partners and share data openly to critics – welcoming the chance to spot any areas we can and should be addressing.
